Supporting new mothers & families in Gorseinon

 Baby Basics is a volunteer-led project aiming to support new mothers and families who are struggling to meet the financial and practical burden of looking after a new baby.

 
 

About Baby Basics

Baby Basics works with midwives, health visitors and other professional bodies to provide starter packs for those in need. We can help vulnerable groups such as teenage mums, asylum seekers, and women fleeing domestic violence and trafficking.

Our Moses baskets provide a safe bed to sleep in and are packed full of toiletries such as nappies, wipes, maternity pads, as well as blankets, towels and baby clothes. For some these are the only items they have for their child. Many of our clients don’t benefit from having a supportive family around them, so they appreciate the love that goes into hand-made items.

We believe that Baby Basics shows God’s love in action. The aim is to help new mothers practically and generously, demonstrating the love of God through our care. God is at the centre of Baby Basics as we are inspired and motivated by His heart for everyone. Every day we continue – and every item we send out, is thanks to His kindness, grace and provision.

 

Our Vision is based on Matthew 25:37-40

Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ The King will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.

What can you donate?

 

  • Baby grows and vests (newborns-three months);

  • Cardigans & jumpers;

  • Hats, socks & mittens;

  • Coats & snow suits;

  • Baby towels;

  • Sheets & blankets (for a Moses basket);

  • Nappies (size 0/1/2);

  • Maternity towels and breast pads);

  • Baby wipes;

  • Baby shampoo;

  • Cotton wool (not buds);

  • Baby wash / soap;

  • Adult shampoo, shower gel and deodorant;

  • Adult toothbrush & toothpaste;

  • Softtoys suitable for a new born baby;

  • Moses basket;

  • Slings.

What do we not accept?

 

  • Talc;

  • Car seats;

  • Push chairs or high chairs;

  • Travel cots;

  • Breast pumps;

  • Used / unboxed feeding bottles;

  • Furniture;

  • Washable nappies;

  • Large or ride-along toys;

  • Bric-a-brac;

  • Baby milk & food;

  • Potties;

  • Stair gates & other safety equipment.

We request that all items are clean and in near-new condition. We are very grateful for all donations, but reserve the right to pass on items to to alternative charities or to sell any items that we are unable to use.
